The John S. Watson Fund was started in 1936 as the Community Christmas Cheer Committee. At that time, Mr. Watson handed out candy to local children. In 1978 the organization was incorporated as a non-profit. Eventually the fund was turned over to John S. Watson’s son, John M. Watson, who continues to serve on the Board of Directors.
Today, Southern Berkshire County families that find themselves in need of assistance apply to receive:
A clothing voucher for each qualifying child and/or a food voucher to purchase a holiday feast.
This is all accomplished through the generosity of our community.
In 2021, a total of 282 families were helped; 901 individuals were fed and 411 children received clothing.
