The John S. Watson Fund was started in 1936 as the Community Christmas Cheer Committee. At that time, Mr. Watson handed out candy to local children. In 1978 the organization was incorporated as a non-profit. Eventually the fund was turned over to John S. Watson’s son, John M. Watson, who continued to serve on the Board of Directors until his passing in the Fall of 2022.
Today, Southern Berkshire County families that find themselves in need of assistance apply to receive:
A clothing voucher for each qualifying child and/or a food voucher to purchase a holiday feast.
This is all accomplished through the generosity of our community.
In 2022, a total of 245 families were helped; 796 individuals were fed and 365 children received clothing.
